Region cheat sheet

  • Tokyo / Osaka — go after dark, find wet asphalt, set white balance cool.
  • Hakone touge — go at golden hour. Mt. Fuji is the trump card.
  • Kyoto countryside — sakura in spring, fog in autumn.
  • Pacific coast — sunset only. Sunrise is east-facing inland.
  • Hokkaido — snow only. Bring a bright car (white snow eats dark cars).
